Early July was an exciting time for the PAI-Gamma Partnership as we released yet another upgrade to our mTAB for the Web service. This release came only 3 months since our last upgrade and surely makes mTAB for the Web one of the fastest improving analysis packages available.
The developments which have been incorporated into this release have been designed to increase the ease of use of mTAB for the Web. Improvements have been made to the display of user defined formats and new options are available when saving tabs. The conditional formatting option which was added in our last release has been updated and the TopN report is now available in Colour! In addition, mTAB for the Web now makes use of the added benefits of using Java 2, mSLICE has been upgraded and improvements have been made behind the scenes to ensure you receive the best service possible.
Enhanced Conditional Formatting
The Conditional Formatting in the spreadsheet option which was introduced in March this year allowed users to highlight the maximum and minimum values in each column or row of a spreadsheet. This feature has now been enhanced so that the user can now set the parameters in which shading can be applied. For example, the user can ask for all values above or below a certain value to be highlighted. Furthermore, the user can also ask for cells to be highlighted that are significantly different to a benchmark cell.
A further enhancement will also allow users to easily colour cells to highlight a range in the spreadsheet.
Colourful TopN Report
mTAB for the Web’s TopN report has been developed for this latest release. Firstly, by utilising the conditional formatting option described above, users will be able to colour a set of cells and then when the TopN report is activated, the colouring will be taken to the TopN spreadsheet.
Alternatively, users can run a TopN report and then activate a new colouring tool bar option, which will automatically colour the TopN report so that the same response can easily be tracked across the TopN report.
As you would expect, a coloured TopN report can be exported to Excel or HTML in the same way as standard spreadsheets.
Formats Display
Many of our mTAB users will know, as well as our standard list of default formats, each mTAB for the Web user can create their own formats.
In order to help distinguish between user defined formats and standard formats a change has been made to the Formats Styles drop down menu. A ‘–Default Formats-‘ separator will now appear in the list of formats. Formats listed below this separator will be standard mTAB default formats and all user defined formats will appear above this separator in alphabetical order.
Saved Tabs
Many of our users are increasing the amount of analysis they are undertaking in mTAB for the Web. As usage is increasing for individual users we felt it was important to improve the organisation options available for saved tab files. In this release, users will be able add, rename or delete folders to store saved tabs from the Tab Save dialogue box. From the Saved Tabs view, users will also be able drag tabs between folders and each saved tab will display a last saved date, to aid with the deletion of older and no longer required tab files.
Mouse Wheels Enabled
For this latest release of mTAB for the Web we have taken the decision to upgrade the Java version that users must have installed, to Java 2. As a direct result of this upgrade, Mouse Scroll Wheels will now work in mTAB for the Web and provides us with an opportunity to add numerous other features in the future.
If you do not currently have Java 2 installed, you will receive notification that your Java version needs to be upgraded when you next try to log in to mTAB for the Web. If you get the notification screen, please follow the instructions and install the latest version of Java and you will be able to access mTAB for the Web as normal.
mSLICE Upgrade
The mSLICE feature which allows users to export data to SPSS or SAS has seen a change in the format of the syntax files that are created. This enhancement will increase the performance and usability of the files, when importing the files into SPSS or SAS.
Behind the Scenes
As with all new releases of mTAB for the Web, as well as providing new functionality a lot of improvements are made behind the scenes to improve the efficiency of mTAB. In this latest version mTAB’s data engine has been optimised to allow users to create larger tab selections, particular with 3rd Level layers options.
mTAB for the Web will now recognise hyperlinks that are contained within verbatim responses and a lot of work has gone into improving our administration area, ensuring that our support services can help you more efficiently with setting up users or databases for you to access.
